I tried a couple of different background colours - firstly I tried black because I was curious to see what the opposite of what I currently had would look like. I thought the colour made the sketch too harsh and didn't match the piano music so I tried some more neutral colours. Although I did find some colours which matched the existing ideas of the sketch, I thought that the colour detracted from the ellipses themselves. In the end I chose to stick with the white background because I like the way it focuses attention on the ellipses and works as a blank/silent background colour.
